Wrinkles are the most popular reason for seeking out Botox and other Neuromodulators (muscle relaxants). Most commonly it is used to treat forehead wrinkles, crows feet, wrinkles between the eyes and between the eyebrows. It can also be used to do a "brow lift", "lip flip", "gummy smile'' or "Nefertiti neck lift". If you're looking for Botox treatment for medical uses please refer to Botox for Hyperhidrosis here, or Migraines here.
What is Botox?
Botox is one of the most researched medical ingredients on the planet. It was actually discovered by Vancouver's very own Dr. Carruthers for cosmetic purposes. Made of botulinum toxin, often shortened to Botox, Botox is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species. It temporarily prevents the release of the neurotransmitters that cause muscle movement, thus causing paralysis. Carefully injected in tiny quantities, these products smooth out the skin by blocking nerves that cause contractions, temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. This relaxation can give you a more youthful and radiant look. Treatments typically take just a few minutes, involve minimal discomfort, require no downtime, and last for several months.
What are the different types of muscle relaxants?
There are a few different forms of muscle relaxants. At The De Pieri Clinic we carry 3 brands Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®, that are all derived from a protein complex produced by the bacterium clostridium botulinum.
