Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes blushing or flushing and visible blood vessels in your face. It may also produce small, pus-filled bumps. These signs and symptoms may flare up for weeks to months and then go away for a while. Though rosacea. is a permanent skin condition, we offer options that are commonly used together to help reduce flare ups.
Treatment Options
Laser Treatment
We have 2 lasers in the clinic that can be used to reduce the veins and papules caused by rosacea.
IPL laser treatment can be a simple and effective solution for rosacea. IPL stands for “intense pulsed light.” There is minimal discomfort and no downtime. While the skin typically clears within 1 session, a series of 3 sessions may be desired to thoroughly eradicate the redness associated with rosacea.
While individual results may vary, patients may also experience other benefits from IPL phototherapy, such as tightening of sagging or wrinkled skin, and collagen stimulation.
KTP laser targets larger, more visible vessels, and can be used alone or in combination with IPL to help create a more even skin tone overall. KTP is used to treat many causes of redness on the face, including blood vessels, rosacea and post-inflammatory erythema (the redness left behind after acne.) The KTP laser targets hemoglobin within the red blood cells on the skin, thereby eliminating tiny blood vessels without damage to the surrounding skin. The energy of the KTP laser causes the blood vessels just below the skin’s surface to collapse. There is minimal discomfort and no downtime after the treatments. Some improvement is seen directly after the treatment and improvement continues over the following days.
Topical Medications
There are many topical prescription creams that can used in conjunction with laser treatment to help keep rosacea under control. The type of medication would be determined at your consulation.
