Laser Hair Removal
The De Pieri Clinic proudly offers Kelowna area residents an advanced laser diode hair removal device that safely and gently eliminates unwanted hair. It can also eliminate ingrown hairs and razor bumps and rashes, leaving smooth, healthy skin. The extra large hand piece gives us the ability to treat larger areas, making treatments fast and convenient, and our device is considered the gold standard for efficacy and patient comfort.
How does laser hair removal work?
At The De Pieri Clinic, we use the gold standard in hair removal; ultra-fast laser diode technology. Adjusting the treatment to your hair’s colour, density and coarseness, our technicians subject the hair follicles at the base of the hairs to the wavelength of the laser. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the light and the hair, destroying the hair and follicle. Over the next few days, the treated hair will simply fall out. Because the laser precisely targets only the hair, the surrounding skin is generally left unharmed.
Can laser hair removal be done on all parts of the body?
The De Pieri Clinic safely performs hair removal on the face, arms, underarms, legs, back and bikini area. Clients with dark hair and fair skin are the easiest to treat, but we always invite you to receive a free consultation to discuss whether you are a good candidate.
How long does a session take?
With each pulse of the laser, we can treat many hairs within an area of 4 cm2 per second. Treatment of the entire upper lip can usually be completed within seconds. Treating arms or legs will take longer.
What does laser hair removal feel like?
The diolaze handpiece is designed to provide cooling to the skin, before, during and after treatment, maximizing client comfort. In the rare event that a client is extra sensitive, we have the option of applying numbing cream prior to treatment. This will be discussed during your consultation.
Your skin is first covered with a cooling gel which increases the laser's efficacy and reduces discomfort. During the actual treatment, you may feel a prickly sensation similar to a rubber band being snapped against your skin during each pulse. Any discomfort usually subsides very quickly.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of required sessions depends on the colour, thickness and coarseness of the hair. Typically, for long-lasting effects, we recommend 5-10 treatment sessions, spaced 4-8 weeks apart. As treatment proceeds, the intervals become longer.
The majority of our clients reach about 85% hair reduction after 6-8 treatments. Of course, each patient’s experience may be a little different, and some clients acheive desired results even sooner. Annual or semi-annual touch-up treatments are then recommended for sporadic new hair growth due to individual physiological processes.
Do I have to prepare for the treatment? Is there downtime after the treatment?
We will give you specific instructions before your treatment, but we usually ask that clients shave a few days beforehand. We will need to see a few millimeters of hair growth to target the follicles with the laser. Waxing and tweezing must be avoided for six weeks before treatment. Avoid tanning or prolonged sun exposure for at least 3-4 weeks before and after the treatment, and use sunscreen. Any specific instructions are discussed during your consultation and at the end of each treatment session.
Are there risks to laser hair removal?
The technicians at The De Pieri Clinic are well trained, experienced and focused on your safety and comfort. As with all medical procedures, however, there are some possible side effects of laser hair removal such as swelling around the hair follicles, slight redness of skin, and temporary irritation. These side effects are all discussed at your consultation to ensure that you are completely comfortable and knowledgeable going forward with your treatment.
While individual results vary, laser hair removal can be a long-lasting option for unwanted hair. We invite you to contact The De Pieri Clinic to arrange your private consultation and treatment.
